What trustees do
Trustees lead the organisation together. They ensure AidWorkers carries out its purposes for public benefit, complies with its governing document and the law, acts in its best interests, manages resources responsibly, uses reasonable care and skill, and remains accountable.
The role is unpaid, although properly authorised reasonable expenses may be reimbursed. All trustees share responsibility for decisions, finances, safeguarding and risk, even where a particular task is delegated.
Who we are looking for
You do not need previous trustee experience. We value people with sound judgement, integrity, constructive independence and enough time to prepare for and participate in board work. Useful perspectives include humanitarian or lived experience, finance, charity governance, safeguarding, fundraising, law, digital and technology, communications, operations, risk and organisational development.
Applicants must meet the age rules for AidWorkers’ legal structure, must not be disqualified from acting as a charity trustee unless an appropriate waiver applies, and must be willing to complete proportionate identity, eligibility, reference and, where the role requires it, DBS checks before appointment.
