Governance

Clear governance protects the people AidWorkers exists to serve, preserves independent judgement and makes responsible humanitarian action possible.

AidWorkers is developing a proportionate governance framework for a practical humanitarian organisation. Trustees provide collective oversight, ensure resources further the organisation’s purposes and keep its decisions lawful, informed and accountable.

Our governance approach

Good governance is not an administrative end in itself. It provides the safeguards, challenge and public accountability needed to act with confidence, especially when work involves urgent needs, vulnerable people, sensitive information or overseas partners.

Core principles

  • Put charitable purposes and public benefit first.
  • Make informed decisions collectively and record significant decisions.
  • Protect people through safeguarding, privacy and responsible partnerships.
  • Manage money, assets, risk and reputation prudently.
  • Declare and manage conflicts of interest and loyalty.
  • Report openly while protecting confidential or security-sensitive information.
